Where was I on November 4?

"HOW TO DRESS A NAKED WINDOW"

Within a few short minutes I had pulled these fabulous,
versatile fabrics from the shelves of Metropolitan Window Fashion's shelves

I was invited by local fabric workroom and shop Metropolitan Window Fashions to take part in a free decorating seminar given by industry experts on creating and hanging window treatments in residential homes.

"How to Dress a Nake Women" slideshow and seminar took place at MWF's shop at 469 Amsterdam Avenue (between 82nd & 83rd St).  As we nibbled on a delicious breakfast, we were given an informative hour-long discussion and slideshow of the important features to consider when dressing windows.

Throughout the discussion and slideshow owner Bruce Heyman pointed to the many layers of considerations when addressing window needs - new fabrics and trims, various options for privacy and light control , chlidren safety coverings, ideas for challenging shaped windows, and the new revolution in motorized treatments. It is quite obvious these folks know their business.  At first glance, this shop is a busy room filled with fabric.  At closer inspection there are an abundance of quality and versatile styles in fabric, trims and hardware, and all available for custom designs utilizing their in-house designer's talent and knowledge.

together, Janet and I (the in-house designer)  pulled quite a collection of fabric swatches to choose from -- ultra contemporary to detailed traditional. Their price point is extremely competitive and they are accomodating to both the consumer and designers (how refreshing).  the attitude of owner Bruce is a lovely tonic of laid back relaxed style with well informed professionalism that only comes with many years experience in a business.  In this current economy many of my clients and friends are more budget conscious, and I especially like that MWF has various price ranges, and what I would consider almost bargain prices on some items, and all custom designed.
MWF is a 75 year-old family-owned business that has carved out its niche in the home furnishing industry by keeping work local and specialised. With two full scale locations in New Jersey and two shops locations in Manhattan MWF offers a neighborhood alternative to large workrooms. A big plus is their free no-obligation Shop at Home decorating consultations, which include window measurement and design advice by a highly trained staff.

Nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, I would assume some pass the shop windows regularly, and with Bruce reaching out to the community with seminars such as these, locals can feel comfortable to stop by and chat with the in-house designer and staff.  No matter if you have a large job or only need one small shade, MWF can accommodate.
