WELCOME to Nest by Tamara blog
Hi- It's Tamara. I'm happy you've stopped by, and since 2010 I've been sharing my passion for interior design, history, art, entertaining, travel & fashion. I am an interior designer, textile designer and writer living and working in New York City and East Hampton, Long Island. My musings have taken me to international design, art, antique and epicurean events and I have lots to share. I'm grateful to have been listed as the #1 top design blog, blogs to watch, top design blogs and named and awarded Rising Star of Design by the IFDA NY industry organization. Please feel free to reach out to our team for an interior design consultation at NestbyTamara.com -Tamara

Ten Designers' Work
We Love At The
outdoor terrace, Danielle Rollins
Presented each year by Traditional Home magazine, the Hamptons Designer Showhouse gala opens right in the middle of summer, just when we are getting settled into our beach mode.  A perfect time to view a newly created home from interior designers hailing from all over the country.  This year was no exception and the house gave us much to love.  Being a Hamptonite, I appreciate that proceeds benefit Stony Brook Southampton Hospital keeping the love local!  With a stellar line-up on the advisory board (from the fabulous and talented Greg McKenzie to the equally talented Jamie Drake as well as others), we can count on this showhouse  coming together beautifully.

The design trends I noted throughout the home tell us a lot about what we are collectively relating to in design these days.  These shining moments reveal a fascination with color, layering, a little bit of history, whimsy. From Sara Bengur's colorful lair which could be literally taken from a Wes Anderson movie set, to Megan Gorelick's colorful lounge and of course, Alexa Hampton's vibrant and historical master bedroom, we are feeling that story loud and clear! With punches of red throughout the home, stylish wallpaper, and a plethora of unique and bold art, we see the old and new come together beautifully.  Now open to the public until September 2, 2019 you'll have plenty of time to check it out, but in case you're far away, here we bring you highlights...

1. outdoor terrace and patio by Danielle Rollins
who brings that special attention to detail and poised for entertaining.  The colorful upholstered furniture in a cornflower blue with touches of red reads "Americana" and old fashioned but with a fresh, modern twist.  It's pretty and encourages lazy afternoons sipping iced tea by the pool.  We love it!

2. all the super high-end sources you'd expect from Alexa Hampton (like Cowtan & Tout, Samuel & Sons, Theodore Alexander) but this junior master bedroom design still feels wonderfully modern alongside all the vintage and antique references.  This is one of my favorite rooms, and the wallpaper sets a bold and gorgeous mood!

3. The living room and kitchen design is by Alessandra Branca. She is one of the greatest designers today, melding design periods well, and always by layering with pops of color but not overwhelming.  Her designs feels a little bit Italian but with American roots.  This living room is the perfect Hamptons respite to nest and entertain in.
4. Sara Bengur collaborated with textile designer John Robshaw  to create this wonderful nest. It feels like it could be on the set of the next Wes Anderson movie with the vibrancy of international feeling textiles, a beautiful custom wallpaper design and lots of unique details and accessories.

5. Leita Austin Foster takes the prize for creativity yet keeping it beautiful and livable.  This is a bedroom I want to stay in forever.  A gorgeous brown and ecru wallpaper adds a textured backdrop for the pretty art and all those preppy touches.  I've long-loved her shop in Palm Beach and she keeps true to her aesthetic while bringing a modern vision.

6. Pittsburgh designer Betsy Wentz channels the 1970s in her low seating and colorful mural with modern symbols, fun electric fabric  in the downstairs bar and sitting area

7. we love the hip, colorful art wall and designs by Megan Gorelick from Wilmington, Delaware.  She brings it over the top with an eclectic array of art from Miller Gallery Charleston and a pop of color with the blue sofa. photo credit these two above, Rachel McGinn.
8. The main floor bathroom by Keith Baltimore is a study in balance.  It's great a style mix, one part throwback to Swifty's (with the framed art in the "Loo" and green grasscloth), and other part zen retreat with the natural wood and that punchy Thibaut wallpaper.
9. Genevieve Carter's downstairs bedroom
showcases a beautiful bed from Lauren Copen Antiques which anchors the room with a lovely patina.  Nice to note, the antique mirror is originally Carter's distant relative, famous architect Stanford White and on loan from Lowy Framing.
10. Dallas designer Chad Dorsey shows a lovely design yet restrained allowing our eye to take in all the details.  It feels a welcome escape from all the color in the house.  From circa lighting to Thibaut wallcoverings, we noted lots of layering in quiet moments.

Happy Nesting
XO Tamara
