With the Holidays in Full Swing,
Cheers to Timeless Color-filled Rooms
With Gorgeous Fireplaces!
2019 has been all about color in the design world, yet there is a strong return to Classic design in the home.  Maybe we crave the familiarity of these comfortable spaces yet all these hues are giving us a burst of modernity. As the temperatures chill, and decorating for the Holidays is in full swing, let's look at a few lovely historic-looking fireplaces adorned with lots of color, and all while encouraging creative holiday decorating.  London home of Butter Wakefield, photo via Jo Rodgers, Vogue.com

before the Holidays, 2019
This year I plan to decorate my emerald green living room with lots of silver and gold, set against our colorful walls and white fireplace and trim, I think it will shine.  No matter the design trends, the type of homes I most love have a layered, yet well edited feel and are infused with a bit of history and all combined with new designs, something fresh.  Great design is all about the ying and the yang, and it's the juxtaposition of colors, textures that make a room the most interesting. But, make no bones about it, a roaring fire in a cozy room with rich, vibrant colored walls and a little patina on the furniture, are some of the mosting inviting homes I've seen.  Here are a six of my favorites, and cheers to a colorful and rich 2020!
1. House Beautiful showed this lovely sky blue-ensconced room and uplifting  space which properly highlights this ornate fireplace with a modern lens.  Interior designer team Arent & Pyke.
2. The Salon in this beautiful home shows a gallery wall of art (still life by Robert Kulicke), a pretty, historic (original to the home) fireplace and vibrant Wythe Blue painted walls from Benjamin Moore, this tops our colorful, mantel list.  The antique mirror by Stanley Schoen, and the antique andirons from Sage Street Antiques in Sag Harbor

3. Veranda magazine's mantel round up showcases a gorgeous 19th century fireplace in a Hudson Valley home and designed by Lynne Stair.  A neoclassical home with this gorgeous lacquered green Benjamin Moore avocado-colored fireplace with red leather and brown mohair fabric.  Hearth is by George Ferdinand Lemmers.
4. Suzanne Rheinstein is known for her gorgeous, layered interiors.  Her Northern California home was profiled in AD Home a few years ago.  The walls are painted one of my favorite Tiffany-blue looking colors, Benjamin Moore's Stratton Blue, a 19-century wing chair from Luca is on a Lee Jofa chair.  The fireplace is incredible!
5. Textile Designer Lisa Fine's former Paris apartment shows pretty pink coloring combined with a historic-looking fireplace and Indian and Persian designs and accessories.  Living room walls are swathed with Sanderson's Pink Allure color.  The fireplace is all things Parisian!
6. Last but certainly not least this Scottish castle was photographed by Karen Radkai for Vogue in 1983.  The photograph is proof that a colored and layered rooms with a fireplace never goes out of style.  This home is just as fresh today as it was then.  Lady Angelika Cawdor's sitting room with a carved stone fireplace, antiques against vivid blue walls-- priceless!
Happy Nesting
XO Tamara
