Our fascination with Chinoiserie continues in interior design

We cannot get enough of
chi·noi·se·rie
/SHēnˌwäz(ə)ˈrē/
The imitation or evocation of Chinese motifs and techniques in Western art, furniture,
and architecture especially in the 18th century. Objects or decorations in this style.

Originating in Europe, Chinoiserie patterns depict images of life in
the Orient. It is a fantastical and glamorous viewpoint we have become fond of in design.
Hence, the adornment of these scenes on
fabrics, wallpapers, and carved into furniture for generations.

Chinoiserie inspired fabrics and wallpapers

Mary utilized colors to add both softness and intensity in clear shades of orange, jade green, aquamarine and blush pink or rich hues of bittersweet brown, ruby red and jet black.
 Brunschwig & Fils

producing quality French fabrics
with nods to the glamorous
visions of the Orient

With the appointment of interior designer Michael Smith this summer as creative director
Brunschwig & Fils has a renewed emphasis in the
historical relevance of the company
"My goal for Brunschwig is to marry its incredible archives with the talent of the brand’s artists, and create a new era of design inspiration based on the beauty of the past.”
Michael Smith

Take a look at B&F's newly launched
Le Jardin Chinois collection
Le Jardin Chinois
is a series of historic fabrics produced by B&F,
reminiscent of the 17th-18th century European designs.
B&F is going into their archives and pulling classic fabrics then updating
on fresh linens and produced in larger patterns.
