Designer Visions gala in a gorgeous Tribeca refurbished building - three spectacular apartments shine

Designers and Journalists come out on a rainy evening

To enjoy beautiful interior design 

at the Designer Visions Sixth Annual Gala 
in Tribeca, NYC

Each year Hearst magazine offers creative, magnificent spaces to inspire the design world.  This year, three gorgeous apartments were designed in the swanky,stylish neighborhood of Tribeca at 250 West Street.  Each residence is sponsored by one of Hearst’ three premiere magazines who then collaborated with acclaimed designers for each project:  ELLE DÉCOR with Matthew Patrick Smyth, House Beautiful with David Rockwell/Rockwell Group and VERANDA with Anthony Todd.  Each residence reflects the magazine’s unique aesthetic and point of view.  And, to top off the project with even more creativity, the residences are being used as the setting for Short Films made in a Hearst partnership with 48 Hour Film Project. 

 hands down my favorite room was Matthew Patrick Smyth's dining room.  During the busy evening, Smyth was gracious to pose for a shot.

Matthew Patrick Smyth’s home for Elle Décor was my favorite.  
His dining room packed a stylish punch.  Smyth is known for his blending of European and American traditions in classic settings.  To me, his style works perfectly with this clean-lined modern space, bringing comfort and style to the apartment, and smart how he brought classic and historic, architectural elements in to give it depth.  I liked the hue of the new Benjamin Moore paint color, "Notre Dame" in the living room, which felt graceful and with a little patina although in a newly refurbished building.  He brought in a 19th Century baroque door behind the bed which added character, and I loved the Hermes wallpaper "Feuillage"  in the study.  

all three designers used interesting tile and cabinetry in their kitchens. I like the oversize tile backsplash in Smyth's kitchen, and it adds a nice contrast to the Poggenpohl cabinetry.

David Rockwell’s home for House Beautiful 
is dramatic and eclectic.  Rockwell is known for his unique spaces, including hotels, Broadway sets and restaurants.   The living room utilizes jewel tone colors against furniture taken from a collection of inherited Dutch and Flemish family heirlooms.

I particularly enjoyed his working studio where he visualizes an artist at work, and his stylist talents are highlighted here where he created a rich, detailed space. 

 I liked the contrast backsplash tile in Rockwell's open kitchen, which feels like a modern version of a blue and white patterned Delft pottery.  The tile offsets the free-floating cabinetry and offers contrast.  The open, communal space is refereshing and was perfect for this large party gathering

Anthony Todd’s home for Veranda
is edgy and reflects a downtown artistic vibe. Todd is known for creating sophisticated interiors, and in this expansive space he is imaginative, pushing the envelope at times with the unique art collection.  He envisions a well travelled, sophisticated couple inhabiting the home, a place they curate and not "overly decorate" but put together organically through their travels and love of art.   Paintings by Parisian artist Thomas Fougeirol.

The Heart Designer Visions will host a variety of events until February 26 at the space, as well as an online auction through Charity Buzz, with proceeds benefitting the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City in support of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.  a similar thread throughout all three homes:   

lots of contrasting, rich fabrics, an impeccable attention to detail but offset with clean lines, good mixes of cool and warm colors in all three interiors.  Use of rich fabrics (particularly liked the flannel and wool), textured materials in the kitchens and lots of beautiful, unique art

The residential building is a refurbished 1906 Neo-Italianate building at 250 West Street
