Carlos Aparicio's designs for Veranda magazine at this year's Designer Visions Showhouse at Walker Towers in Chelsea

the seventh annual Designer Visions Showhouse.  

Last week I showed you Alessandra Branca's apartment for ELLE DECOR; then on the IFDA NY blog I wrote about Jamie Drake's homage to Josephine Baker for

today let's look at Carlos Aparicio's designs 

for VERANDA.  

The smallest of the three apartments, 

interior designer Carlos Aparicio created a restrained apartment for Veranda.  At first glance this space showed more quietly when showcased alongside the other two bright spaces at the Designer Visions Showhouse.  Yet, after contemplation I keep getting drawn back to the space with intricate details and strategically placed, gorgeous European vintage pieces and art.  Beginning with a subtle "painter's" gray color palette, Aparicio chose himself as the muse for the apartment's design. 

How indulged our small group to be given a private tour from the designer and hear first-hand his unique, honed views.  I was inspired to see the apartment through his eyes, giving me a deeper understanding of his vision.  Aparicio designed the space organically, and centered around an eclectic art collection and furnishings that seem to hail from the 1910-1940s periods in Europe.  With his love and admiration for Jean Michel Frank pieces, Aparicio seemed to choose at least one signature furniture piece in each room.  I loved the daybed in the living room, the detailed bleached Swedish chest in the dining room, the stemware in the kitchen, the 1930s table and Klismos chairs in the office, and many of the other fine details.

from his own collection, Aparicio utilized this unique light fixture and shade by Carl Weisman (1910, Sweden) which adds an interesting vantage point from the doorway and introduces the indulgent views.

  Upon entering the apartment, I immediately noticed this lovely piece in the dining room --the legs are chunky and unique and set the tone in the combined dining and living area.  With an up close view, the details of piece shows inlaid wood in fine condition.  

Both this rug and the art collection hanging above show graphic patterns that work well together.  Much of the art is from the BAC Collection, and these pieces are

I am swooning over this unique day bed - 

finally, a place to recline and read a book!

Since the living area is all one large space, 

Aparicio broke it up a little and set up a screen giving the kitchen a cozy feel

this bathroom floor is divine --

just like the rest of the apartment, I found it detailed, masculine and graphic.

On the topic of new developments at Veranda, I had the opportunity to chat with the newly appointed editor in chief, Clinton Smith at the opening gala.  Formerly the editorial director of Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, Smith seems genuinely excited to have relocated from Atlanta to a  new New York City neighborhood and life.  After his appointment there was a flurry of press, tweets, Facebook posts welcoming Smith.  It will be exciting to see what direction the magazine will take with this charming, southern gentleman at the helm.  The first issue under his direction will publish in January -- and he promises some exciting developments!
