Nest by Tamara's Six Favorite Farmhouse Sinks, a little bit country, some contemporary, but all pack a lot of style!

OUR  FAvorite FARMHOUSE SINKS,

A kitchen sink round-up

The Farmhouse Sink

channels the era when homeowners carried their water from wells into their home.  these original apron front dry sinks created for rural homes, often farmhouses, were engineered for practicality.  Years later, the Brits took this sink and the aristocratic class made it stylish.  The original Farmhouse Sink looks fabulous and has been in fashion for quite some time, and we love it in a country home or beach cottage, but the stainless steel, copper or zinc versions are super moderne and top our list as fabulous kitchen sinks.  Practical too, and created more forward than a traditional drop-in sink, this sink puts less strain on the user.
This week we are adding finishing touches to a
small New York City kitchen renovation.

napkins from Root Cellar Designs in pink flutter pattern

When renovating this Manhattan kitchen we knew it had to be packed with great style, but on a budget so we kept it frugal.  Adding this apron front bow shaped sink brought a contemporary and luxury together.  It was finished off with a Brizo Venuto no-touch faucet, a white quartz counter top and a vintage looking white subway tile and dark grout backsplash, it all feels and looks fabulous in this home, and the vintage looking touches feel appropriate for this particular kitchen and the timeframe of the home on the Upper East Side.

these sinks top our favorites...
Thompson Traders has the market cornered for quality, hand hammered sinks in a variety of finishes.  This family owned North Carolina based company takes pride in each and every sink they produce, and we are smitten with the first two listed:
1. Thompson Trader's Hammered Nickel Lucca does not patina so it holds this lovely sheen.  Hand hammered nickel finish.

2. Thompson Trader's Toscana Black Copper sink has the apron-front which featured a black copper finish.  It is hand-hammered copper and would look smashing in a kitchen bringing a bit of patina to the space.

3. Kohler's Whitehaven has a deep bowl which allows less splashing around the counter. big enough for oversized cookware and pans, yet stunning.  The Whitehaven is classic looking and offers options with horizontal ridges for a textural quality.

4. OUR PROJECT'S SINK
Kraus' Stainless Steel Apron-Front  a bargain at Home Depot and no wait time, and with this fabulous extra deep, oversized apron it gives a super stylish look to boot.

5. Blanco's Cerana is an apron front with rounded corners and has an ultra slim design, giving a contemporary flair.  Offered in white or biscuit colored Fireclay material which is durable and easy to clean.

6. DVX's Hillside Collection is country looking yet with high sophisticated style.  I love the 30" apron one above which is especially deep and chunky.

Happy Nesting
XO Tamara
