Kicking Off The Holiday Season at the
East Hampton Historical Society's
House & Garden Tour, 2021
This year's event did not disappoint with five gorgeous, authentic and unique homes in the East End of Long Island. Hosted each year by the East Hampton Historical Society, the annual House & Garden Tour is the highlight and kicks-off the Holiday Season in The Hamptons. How generous for these families to open up their home to the public for these precious sneak peeks- some even had cider and cookies available. So much work goes into this event, and the upkeep of this historical homes. Take a look at some highlights...
1. A Shingle Style Revival, a home of art collectors
A newly constructed house in East Hampton Village benefiting from the natural beauty that surrounds, it was once part of the Lorenzo E. Woodhouse estate. This sculptural home showcases myriad design styles from the 1880s through the early 1900’s with a special nod to the Shingle Style revival that made popular in the Hamptons.
This home has superb craftsmanship, an example of Arts & Crafts-inspired architecture with single-level living. This Village retreat has multiple outdoor “rooms”, situated within smart landscaping. It is showing a calming palette of muted greys. The owners are a husband and wife design team (he's a landscape architect and she's an interior designer), and the home shows their talent in every nook.
East Hampton Village, this newly constructed residence is at once casual, relaxed elegance and traditional design. It's completely secluded, yet only steps away from Main Street, East Hampton.
4. Amagansett home by famed architect Charles Gwathmey
This is a rare opportunity to visit this widely publicized modern home, The Tolan House. It's an original Gwathmey design (circa 1970). As it's very close to the Atlantic Ocean, it is a sun-drenched open space displaying modern architecture.
5. Egypt Lane Tudor-Style Landmark
Built in 1917 from architects Polhemus and Coffin, this Tudor Style Home borders the infamous private clue nearby, Maidstone Club on two sides.
Happy Nesting
