TRAVEL COLUMN:
With the Holidays Behind Us,
Let's Dream of Luxury Travel to
Playa Grande Beach Club
on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic.  This beautiful resort resides on a mile-long beach with views of the forest.

It's a lovely mix of caribbean cool combined with old-world vibes.  A lot of fresh color, a little bit of wicker and great bones, The Playa Grande shines.  There is a main building and a smattering of buildings and bungalows on the property which utilizes traditional, English-style colonial architecture. Interior Design created by renowned designer, Celerie Kemble, the beach club hits on all my favorite colors and sensibilities.  Here's to a little bit of travel, relaxation and wishing you all a very happy 2018!
Keeping with the authenticity of the island, the design plan hones in on historic structures and showing traditional Caribbean fret work, original tile while utilizing local artisan's talents for a special patterned work working called tragaluz as well as scroll work balustrades, barge boards at the eaves, and on the bungalow's riven siding (which is land planed palm wood) with corrugated zinc roofs.  Other details include Verdigris copper and unlacquered brass hardware, and floated pigment concrete floors, all traditional design elements taken from original Dominican design.

For decoration, I love it that they bring in the natural materials from the island - cane, bone, horn, seed glass and sea grass rugs.  Although it holds a casual decor there is an underlying sophistication from the materials and the carefully chosen vintage pieces.
 Serenity now...
this bar feels a perfect place to cozy up to for an
after-the-beach refreshment
balance, symmetry--this room welcomes in grand style

Happy Nesting
