I'm home, fresh off the plane after a week visiting design show Maison & Objet, The Paris Antique Flea Market and fabric show Deco-off, and I am armed with a plethora of inspiration.

It is special the way the French create, whether it's preparing a meal or decorating an extravagant villa, they put their attention into details in a way that just works. That intangible perfect tonic is hard to pinpoint, yet we know beauty when we see it.
Whether it was walking with friend Toma Clark Haines of the Antiques Diva (the number one antiques touring company in Europe) who invited me to her famous Champagne Breakfast in the Paris Flea Market and private tour of market following...
Or, experiencing a private viewing of these incredible fabrics hot off the press with Zoffany fabrics on the Rue du Mail in Paris.
Or, walking the floor checking out wares hailing from around the world at Maison & Objet...
I saw design around every corner in Paris and felt inspired to write about some of those trends in Nest by Tamara's Top 10 Design Trends.

Crossville's Basalt Collection
Today, while I work at my design desk I am looking over books from Crossville Tile, and I'm impressed with their porcelain tiles. Many of their lines were revamped offering on-trend colors and with more sizing, giving them a more modern appeal. Two collections in particular caught my attention, Empire and Buenos Aires Mood.
While Maison & Objet was happening in Paris, KBIS and TISE, The International Surface event featuring the Surfaces Expo ran concurrently in Las Vegas. Crossville unveiled these newly revamped collections at the show, including Empire and Buenos Aires Mood. I am struck with the superb quality as well as the innovative and on-point style of the lines. I immediately note the Painterly, Textural and Nature-Inspired trends I wrote about in my trend story while in Paris, and they are all working together in one beautiful sample of tile. A tile that has a nubby texture to the touch, yet is sleek and chunky with a color that is serene and modern. It's refreshing to note that this is an archived collection of tile that has been freshened up with newer palettes and more sizes, which breathes life into their design. Keeping the old and adding the new, I love that!

Empire
Mirroring the variability and durability of natural stone, the Empire collection was originally inspired by 19th century French design. While keeping the unique story and nuanced, authentically marbleized stone appearance intact, Crossville updated the collection which is favored with architects and designers. Empire now features nine color palettes, appealing to both a cool and warm spectrum. With the option of going from light to dark in gradient shades it invites the designer to create an ombre effect on the floor. Crossville's new colors highlight on-trend gray tones in their updated palette while also adding new colors Midnight Blue, Marquis Greige, and Cadet White. The sizes run large (18x36) to small mosaics (12x12) on mesh-back sheets for easy installation and even offer special plank sizes through Crossville’s Get Planked program. All of this newness allows options to create beautiful custom design.
Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is often referred to as the Paris of the South. This collection was inspired by a soft, soothing color palette with an earthy yet urban feel. I can visualize this tile on a contemporary kitchen floor with antique stools and statues from the French Flea Market in the kitchen. Of course, we would bring in a delightful tabletop collection found at Maison & Objet for the dining table, and coordinated with the rich, luxurious fabrics from the Rue du Mail. With this tile as the base, there are many options from classic to contemporary possibilities in design!
