Welcome to Nest by Tamara

Welcome to Nest by Tamara
I have been blogging since 2008. Nest by Tamara is a lifestyle blog inspired by my busy, full life as a NYC interior designer. I muse about interior design, antiques, architecture, gardening, cooking and entertaining – all that encompasses “nesting” to create a well-lived life and a stylish home. This is not a DIY blog nor a super snobby, stuffy view, but instead a philosophy of infusing a relaxed elegance into your home through investing in high quality products but mixed with budget pieces because we are always on the prowl for a bargain, and all the while keeping creativity as your secret weapon. My posts help you to continue to be the style seeker you are, juggling it all, and yet, you long for the most beautifully set table, albeit sometimes your pot is bubbling over just as the guests arrive. I show you how to utilize your time, keep quality in your back pocket, and smile while you enjoy the fabulous ride! Email me at TamaraStephenson1@gmail.com

take a holiday shopping tour in Soho with a fun group of bloggers to boot

a bloggy lunch at Isola (the Soho Mondrian Hotel restaurant)
and holiday shopping romp through Soho

 The Soho Mondrian
is in the heart of the neighborhood, offering a stylish respite from the busy shopping.  You may remember I wrote about the Mondrian last year when my very good friends Craig and Tracy Wood (owners of the hotel) invited me in for a complimentary weekend of fun at the hotel.

Oh, the countdown begins and I must confess I have just started my holiday shopping.  It went off with a bang as I gathered with 20 other lovely designers and design bloggers for a holiday lunch and then a "Holiday Romp" in Soho.  The one day event is the brainchild of Veronika Miller of Modenus, and she whipped this fun day together last minute with sponsors who offered us delicious food, cocktail party and discounts at a variety of shops throughout Soho.  Did I mention the proceeds went to a fabulous cause?  Yup, that's right hurricane Sandy victims, and the idea was also to support local shops after this devastating hurricane.  Soho is chock-filled with small, curio shops offering up local artisan made products.  We walked the cobblestone streets making our way to each one.  Here are some of my favorite moments, and I hope you can pop in and pick up something unique for someone you love this Christmas:
tasting food prepared by their brand new chef, Victor LaPlaca, formerly from Olives restaurant
at the stylish Mondrian's Isola restaurant.
Designed by Benjamin Noriega the restaurant and hotel was created and inspired by the story of the Beauty and the Beast.

Then we romped...

Calypso Home
407 Broom Street

Calypso Home offered scrumptuous champagne and rose hip and coconut macarons
there is much to take in at Calypso and I scooped up a couple of books, candles and drooled over the bed linens and pillows

I am crazy for the Missoni linens and bedding
at Calypso Home

Michele Varian
27 Howard Street
Michele Varian works tirelessly to create a beautifully
edited and stylized space that changes daily
You may remember a few weeks back I added Michele's
sea urchin salt cellar
to the top of my Holiday Shopping List post
and yesterday I picked it up for a close friend

the shop is an expansive stylist's dream
with artistic vignettes in each corner showcasing her unique wares

Haus Interiors
250 Elizabeth Street

a cozy shop that offers a lil' country in the middle of an urban area
they make their own collection of scented candles - the smell
permeates the shop

Matter
405 Broom Street
if a shop can be cool, then Matter is the coolest, hippest
guy in town.
Offering a variety of artisan made furniture and lighting pieces,
each one more unique and eclectic than the next

a little catching up at
Bobby Berk's stylish shop
Mary Douglas Drysdale, Bobby Berk, Robin Horton and Barbara Vitieri

Did I mention that Bobby Berk himself (pictured above) is the warmest, most congenial host?  I have had the pleasure of being invited into his shop a couple of times now for cocktails, and he always makes you feel completely at ease.  He is just about to launch his own line, so stay tuned folks.  From the interesting artistic platters and trays to his hilarious
sheet collection (and very risque) Bobby offers up style and quality with a witty bent.
Thanks to Veronika Miller and all the generous hosts
Liebherr, Capital and KBIS 2013
we ate, drank, and shopped Merrily!

Happy Holidays everyone
and Happy Nesting XO
