Spotting brilliant design at The Hampton Designer Showhouse gala sponsored by Traditional Home magazine
The 2014 Hampton Designer Showhouse
brings stellar design to the East End.
Last night's celebration marks the opening of the annual Hampton Designer Showhouse, which is sponsored by Traditional Home magazine showcasing prime examples of traditional design with modern day perspectives and all here in the East End of Long Island. This year the home is a rambling cedar shingle on Pauls Lane in Bridgehampton and set on a gorgeous property with a pool and pool house. The designers are hand picked, and this year's choices are one of my favorite collections of designers together. Each room gave me something new and fresh to think about. Since the gala was my second visit to the house, I came away with even more details and back-stories once I met up with the designers in their spaces during this celebratory evening. Take a look at some of my favorite moments of design brilliance, and I've compiled corners of the spaces here to inspire you!
Caleb Anderson's outdoor terraces (he designed two terraces -- one in front of the pool house overlooking the pool, and the other in the back with views of the tennis court) utilizes balance, symmetry, gorgeous succulents and hanging plants together with furnishings from Frontgate to create a peaceful respite in this busy home.
Local East Hampton designer Greg McKenzie consistently brings state of the art design to his projects. He uses an an interesting color palette and beautiful objects combined together with this special graphic wall covering as a backdrop. The end result is a beautiful, layered sitting room that is warm and inviting, and has lots of details woven throughout, yet it still retains a well edited, modern feeling as well.
I love this antique console from Mecox Gardens (left), which pairs nicely with the over sized mirror and makes for a perfect spot to set up a place to entertain.
I wrote about this stellar dining room last week on the blog. Sean Bruns and Judy Hadlock designed the space in conjunction with Mecox Gardens. The room is glamorous, showing the start of a swanky dinner party. These Slim Aaron photographs, enlarged and framed and hung above a pair of antique tables from Mecox Gardens are gorgeous, making the space pop.
A treasure trove of accessories and tabletop items are smartly packed into this dining room and in a way that does not overwhelm, but entices you to notice them around every corner.
The illustrious Tobi Fairley showcases creative and layered ways of using fabric and pattern to create an elegant bedroom. Fairley uses a fabulous color palette of light slate and mellow orange toile from Duralee fabrics. Tobi looking stylish in her room (below).
One of my most favorite spaces is tucked in the back -- a stylish sitting area that showcases incredibly colorful, yet rich fabrics together with great accessories and furnishings. Did I mention that I am a huge fan of tufted seat cushions?
The beautiful details in Katie Leede's space make it even more special to learn her lovely daughter was her muse. It pays homage to color and traditional design but with an exotic eye for detailing.

Mabley Handler husband and wife design duo striking a pose and sharing with me details of how they put together their blue and orange bedroom design. I love this custom designed rug, as well as the cornucopia of fabrics and patterns in their bedroom.
