With The Kentucky Derby Hours Away,
We Have Horses On Our Mind!

The mere mention of the Kentucky Derby and I am immediately transported to a beautiful blue Kentucky sky, floppy hats and sipping chilled Mint Juleps from a vintage silver cup. There just seems to be a magic between horse and humans that keeps us going back to these majestic creatures to watch them race, jump, hunt and trot around a ring.

All through the ages man has adored horses and depicted the equestrian lifestyle in art, on our garments, tabletop and home wares. We simply cannot get enough of horses and the equestrian lifestyle. Today, in honor of this famous horse race on the horizon, let’s take a look at some of Nest by Tamara's favorite equestrian-inspired antiques and vintage finds from Ruby Lane Antiques. We curated these select pieces from the vintage and antique website. Each time we pick up something horse related, whether it’s a painting or a collection of antique tack, we are again reminded of the animals we love, and the beautiful lifestyle that honors this special connection between man and horses.

The trophy has a jade base and is made of 14-karat gold, handcrafted and presented to the winning owner in the Kentucky Derby Winner's Circle ceremonies following the race. The 2015 Kentucky Derby will be at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. With a record breaking over 160,000 spectators in the stands, this race will most certainly be exhilarating to watch 20 horses gallop to the finish line. Let's raise our Juleps to the Kentucky Derby and finger's crossed your favorite wins!
