Nautical Rumblings: A Furniture & Accessory Round Up Of The Perfect Pieces To Decorate A Beach House

Nest by Tamara's Top Eleven
(because 11 is our lucky number!)
Wares for the Home all Channeling the Sea

I have long had a fascination with nautical and summer-inspired fabrics, wallpapers, accessories, furniture and other decorations for the home.  Maybe it's because during my childhood I lived by the ocean.  Adding something with a nautical influence brings that summer feeling all year long to your home.  I love to decorate a beach cottage because the seriousness of life is set aside in this space to create the perfect, relaxing oasis.  When I began writing the blog many moons ago, one of the first posts I wrote was titled, NAUTICAL RUMBLINGS.  Today, eight years later we bring you another post in this genre, yet with sources, ideas and tips (the blog as grown  and now along with inspirations offers  philosophy and sources with each post).  How appropriate that we write this post as we are in the throes of creating and expanding our home textile company Root Cellar Designs to include wallpaper all to debut this September.  Much of our summer is spent creating this eclectic collection which runs the gambit from traditional botanical prints to abstract bohemian designs.  We want to offer a comprehensive wallpaper collection to showcase the many sides of our own aesthetic and accommodate varying clients we have in our design practice.  We are calling the collection BLACK & BLUE.  We already have one pattern channeling the sea and fulfilling my obsession with blue lobsters.  So, we are happily including our Blue Lobster Ripple pattern in this round-up of our favorite nautically inspired home design products for summer 2016!

Happy Nesting
XO Tamara
1. Serena & Lily's Hanging Rattan Seat channels the bohemian beach style of the 1970s with a bent rattan scoop seat, it is both comfortable, stylish and functional.  The nautical rope is cool too.  Offered in white or natural.
2. These Nautical Brass Flush Mount Light From English Country Antiques in Bridgehampton would add an authentic, stylish beach charm to any home.  These can be used both indoors or outdoors, and they're a modern rendition of the antique, with a lovely patina.
3. High Plains Knotwork sells these adorable nautical, rustic rope balls which can make a great accent piece set on a coffee table or filled in a large hurricane lamp.  We love the natural materials like sisal, manila and rope and the natural coloring.

4. MadeGood's Clam Shell mirror is now available at Mecox.Com and aptly called Ariel.  It is quite different from your average shell mirror and feels very fashionable rather than country in style, and maybe because of the size at a whopping 38" round.
 5.  Blue Lobster on Ripple wallpaper by Root Cellar Designs will debut this September in time to bring summer to your home all year long.  We love the rare blue lobster, an created the pattern on top of our ripple pattern. We plan to use it in our guest bathroom in East Hampton!

6. It's a splurge but SO worth it, Holly Hunt's Traloin Classic Desk with rope encrusted detailing was created by artist Christian Astuguevielle, and is the perfect beach house table/desk to perch your laptop and watch the surf crash out your window.
7. H&M Home's Ocean Candle is light and inexpensive
and has that nuanced summer smell.  We are keeping our eyes on H&M Home which is new to the States.

8. Arterior's St. Barth's Natural Shell Flush Mount Light has an iron frame in a champagne leaf finish with hundreds of natural shells--nice and
chunky too at a nice size of 38H x 36D.
9. Okay, maybe it's not sea-inspired like the rest, but we love a traveling bar cart and this acrylic table from Zara Home could easily be moved from room to room for easy set up when guests arrive for a weekend pool party or lunch under the pergola. It has that beach house chic appeal.
10. Juliska's Waveney Wicker Collection is a fantastic color in delft blue.  These plate chargers are hand woven and perfect for when you want to impress your guests with a layered, casual yet chic summer table.
11. Chilton Furniture is straight from the state of Maine, and all their pieces have that summer camp appeal.  Their new Cottage Collection is stylish and well made, offered in punchy colors.  It is a perfect look for a beach house.  We love this Day Bed shown in color, Sea Glass.  Handcrafted in Maine!
