The Wonder of Natural Mineral
is Realized With These
Selenite & Nickel Sconces at
Luxury Consignment Shop, Viyet
Over the past few years, the design industry has become enamored with minerals, geodes and natural materials in our home. One of my very favorites is Selenite, which is a gypsum mineral often referred to as the "desert rose". This crystalline structure has an incredibly beautiful and dramatic look. It is essentially made up of of Sulfate Dihydrate but looks quite different from other minerals with its jagged, sharp edges and contrasting milky and clear properties. The name is derived from the Greek word, Selene, which means "the moon." Selenite brings a sense of mystery, and certainly beauty with an ethereal aesthetic to the home.

It is impressive to note the sconces we utilized in our indoor/outdoor terrace bathroom for the Holiday House Soho project are be-jeweled with Selenite. An added beauty to the lights is how designer Rachel Laxer lit the back of the Selenite with LED lighting and mounted them on a scored, oversized Nickel plate. They are quite stunning, and they certainly add to our little powder room to showcase a gardener's dream space, a respite and perfect place to pot a few flowers to enjoy on the expansive terrace of this brand new home in Soho, New York City.
