Today, marks the first of our summer 2017 series called, What We Love Today-- these are favorites we have found on our extensive travel, all beautifully designed whether it's a gorgeous hotel like today's post, or a pretty dish or textile. These will all be design finds that we think are just stellar, and, worthy of their very own post here on the blog. There are so many beautiful things that come across our design desk, and these will be the finest ones, those we deem worthy of sharing. We hope this little additional summer column brings you a bit of joy, inspiration and just adds to your wealth of sources as you go about your busy traveling, designing, eating and taking in all the beauty that surrounds. Look for What We Love Today posts every week on Monday here on the blog.
You may already know about this stylish boutique hotel chain by Firmdale Hotels which include The Ham Yard Hotel in London, the Crosby Street Hotel in New York, and now the Whitby Hotel in New York as well. Owners Kit and Tim Kemp created these luxury hotels which feel as if you are staying in the home of a very stylish friend, a lovely mix of old and new furnishings and fantastic art to boot. The rooms have all been curated and decorated by owner, British interior designer Kit Kemp. She is a design talent for certain and check out her recently published book, Every Room Tells A Story which outlines her philosophy on design.
The Kemps now own eight hotels in London and two in New York City. These townhouse-style accommodations reflect Kit Kemp's style, referred to as fresh, modern English. She was named the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year in 2008, and the firm earned the coveted title of Queens Award for Enterprise three times in recent years as well.
The Whitby just opened their doors to the public last month making this their second hotel in New York City. It's centrally located on West 56th street and 5th avenue, and a perfect spot to stop in for a summer cocktail or dinner, and most certainly a favorite stay for out-of-town guests looking for a hotel with a personality. With their signature upholstered, tall headboards and bespoke mannequins in each room, the Whitby is a hotel with a big personality. The rooms are outfitted nicely with beautiful textiles and detailing in every nook and cranny. It's quirky and nuanced, sophisticated, yet cozy, and very colorful! Check it out....
Happy Nesting
