I noted a refreshing theme prevailing in the East End this summer, as well as throughout the grounds of this year's antiques show-- a modern and international take on the old and new combined together, a unique "Boho Chic" style. More and more people are wearing vintage clothing and jewelry, as well as decorating with antique furnishings and accessories in their home, but they are doing so in a manner that feels fresh and modern. This design and personal style shows a relaxed, international yet sophisticated approach and a new freedom to meld the past with the future. Martha Stewart shopped Opening Night at

Case in point -the Kaftan which has become this summer's "hot" fashion statement with everyone from locals to celebrities donning colorful, exotic flowing, jewel-toned tunics and robes. Both men and women alike are showing these easy-to-wear dress-like shifts. Martha Stewart and her friends picked up several at the East Hampton antiques show while we were there. We chatted with owner Susana Correa-Vial complimenting the ethereal blue Kaftan she wore herself. Her booth was chock-filled with gorgeous dresses, shoes and bespoke items for the home. Susana travels the globe to hand-pick the finest collections of old and new combined.
JED Antique Shop in East Hampton, New York
Jack Deamer is a local antique dealer/design talent and his lovely grey poodle Charlie is his mascot. I am happy to learn Jack opened his legendary antique shop again, this time in the Red Horse Market in East Hampton. I loved that this year his antique booth was under the billowy tents with a black and white striped backdrop, very chic! He showcases lots of blue and white porcelain, rattan, great mirrors and other finds.
Andrew Spindler in Essex, Massachusetts
Andrew Spindler takes his sophisticated antique shop (which resides in the quiet, seaside-town on the North Shore of Boston in Essex) on the road to East Hampton each summer. He utilizes his honed design eye to curate the most unique wares, and each year he creates lovely vignettes in his booth at the show. This year, he set up shop in the coveted historic barn on the property, and his designs fit like a glove. Andrew collects one-of-a-kind antiques as well as vintage fabric from renowned, historic fabric company, Folly Cove which were a consortium of women fabric designers in the 1940s.
Happy Nesting
