Design Trend To Watch-- Textured, Layered and Yes, to More Wallcoverings, but in Commercial Spaces!

Design Prediction for 2019...
More Boutique Hotels and Restaurants
 Like Kit Kemp's Ham Yard

the Ham Yard in London

Happy to report a new, growing design trend  we expect to increase into 2019-- rooms with a layering of textures, various patterns, and eclectic design style mixed well together, and yes, more wallpaper and wallcovering. This trend has been skyrocketing in the residential market the past two years, but we predict it will continue this coming year also in commercial spaces like boutique hotels and restaurants all over the world.  Gone are the days of boring hotel rooms, neutral and, well, vanilla.  Today's hotels, restaurants and other public spaces are similar to a richly decorated home.
Kemp's hotels are layered and feel like you
are visiting an eccentric, rich and
stylish friend in London

Designers like Kit Kemp have paved this path and set the trend and created a new aesthetic for boutique hotels throughout England and the States.  Kemp's design style is warm, inspires creativity, is vibrant in color and textures with eclectic art, wonderfully layered with surprises around every corner.  Her hotel rooms are known for her iconic extra tall upholstered headboards covered in rich textiles and lots of wallpaper and wallcovering. Kit Kemp is the creative director for Firmdale Hotels, a consortium of English and American hotels and restaurants

As the creative directors and co-owners of fabric and wallpaper company root cellar designs, we note this trend from the many designers who request more wallpaper  and fabric for commercial application.  We recently created and debuted our very own commercial grade type 2 wallpaper collection on three different wall covering options-- a textured, smooth and a vinyl option and all printed up on our designs taken from our residential collections, as well as a new indoor/outdoor textile, PORCH which utilizes recycled materials yet prints vibrantly and with a lovely drape.
