Designer Showhouse

The Detroit Junior League partnered this year again with ASPIRE MAGAZINE to bring the 2020 Junior League of Detroit Showhousean interior design/fundraising effort to support local philanthropic programs including Project EAT which helps create a more food secure community through education. The showhouse takes place very other year. Check out ASPIRE's video which captures the unique beauty of the home.

For 2020, the committee selected 27 tops designers and artists both nationally and locally to transform the historic Bingley Fales House, a 16,000 residence in the Indian Village community in Detroit.  With 10 bedrooms, five full baths, the Georgian mansion is set on two acres of land, and showcases a gorgeous meandering formal flower garden and landscaped property. New York's design Duo Jaime Drake and Caleb Anderson joined as honorary design chairs this year, and also designed the 33 remaining spaces in the house.  Design sponsors were Kohler Co., Kohler Signature Store in Birmingham, Benjamin Moore Paint, and CIOT Tile.

The house was open to the public this past September.  I had attended the former showhouse gala two years ago, and it was an exciting event.  In lieu of visiting this year, I bring you an up-close view of a favorite space designed by Laura Zender of Laura Zender Design from Ann Arbor, Michigan.  She re-imagined the Master Bathroom and a bedroom adjoining the Master Bedroom, she calls the "Lady's Retreat".  She created a luxurious retreat indeed. In the bathroom- she worked in collaboration with the homeowner who desired a clean, classic white bathroom so she chose a simple design with a large marble shower, a hand forged pendant alongside black mosaic border on the floor.  In the bedroom she envisioned a respite where the "lady of the house" could retreat for a good night's sleep, a feminine yet stylized and edited space.  Laura created a gorgeous design.  We are over the moon she utilized our root cellar designs printed linen weave pattern upholstered on a chair, and we think it looks stunning.  And, another one of our fabric designs (Poltergeist) to create a pillow sham on the bed.  There are a plethora of stellar sources she used in her design which she generously shares them with us here on the blog.
