I'm thrilled to attend an exciting Lecture Luncheon this Thursday, August 11th at 11 am at the historic Maidstone Club in East Hampton.  The East Hampton Historical Society will present this Lecture Luncheon with world-renowned landscape architect Thomas L. Woltz, who will discuss Dynamic Preservation Through Landscape Design.  The panel will be moderated by Marc Porter, Chairman of Christie's Americas who will lead a Question-and-Answer session. Lunch will be served to guests following the lecture while enjoying soaring ocean views at the Club.  This is the sixth annual Lecture Lunch Series hosted by the East Hampton Historical Society.  It's exciting to note, they will bring together talented designers and architects from around the globe to celebrate the East End's beauty and rich history.

The Summer Lecture Luncheon is presented by Wilmington Trust. The event is also made possible through the generous support of Christie’s, ELLE Décor, and Oscar de la Renta. Proceeds from the program will benefit the Historical Society’s partnerships with local schools as well as the preservation of its world-class artifact collection.

Dynamic Preservation Through Landscape Design

about Thomas L. Woltz

At Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, Thomas L. Woltz leads a dynamic practice of historians, scientists, artists, and landscape architects who use research-based design to reveal forgotten histories in the land. The firm’s body of work spans continents and countries, telling lost, forgotten, and hidden narratives embedded in landscapes ranging from dense urban sites to remote wilderness.

Through several case studies, including Frederic Edwin Church’s Olana in Hudson, New York; The Gardens at the Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York; Sylvester Manor Educational Farm in Shelter Island, New York; and the EcoCommons at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, Thomas will illustrate the research-based design process that has balanced sensitive adaptations and contemporary interventions to breathe new life into historic and cultural landscapes.
