Let's Refresh A Beach House Guest Bedroom In The Hamptons With Some Old and New Wares
Six Easy Ways I Created
A Mid-Summer
Beach House Bedroom Refresh
As many of you know, I love to shop antique and vintage shops for my home and the homes of my clients. Mixing old and new together is a design hack that allows a room to feel lived in yet with a curated feel, and the combination of new, practical products with old and patina'd items elevate the interior design.
Summer in East Hampton can be hard on a home, and with frequent travels to the beach and pool there is often sand and salt brought in on bare feet and it takes a toll on the floors and furniture. That's why this summer with a plethora of guests planned, I decided to do a small decorating refresh. An easy redo, not a complete overhaul and it took little time and effort during this busy season to get the bedroom a new feel.
I had previously chosen the Martha Stewart Cornflower blue paint color for this room years ago, and I love it against the white trim. Because the cottage is a walk to the beach, this bedroom feels the sea-inspiration.
please note: the new indoor/outdoor Jute Q-Bert rug was a gift from the vendor as compensation for reviewing for this story.

how I created the new,
refreshed cottage bedroom:
1. New Slipcover- I upholstered the small sleeper sofa in Bruschwig & Fil blue & cream toile cotton.
2. New Acccessories- A pair of vintage mirror-backed tole sconces in a patina finish, vintage shell lamp, shell mirror from Beall & Bell Antiques in Greenport
3. New Pillows- root cellar designs' pillows, Stylist Hound Hermes pattern pillows in down feather
4. New Art- I mounted a pair of Antique Fish Prints with Cowtan & Tout wallpaper framed in mahogany frames, an Antique Lobster print on Hermes (Dedar) wallpaper and found a set of four vintage Sailboat photography.
5. New Rug- Indoor Outdoor Jute Q-Bert rug by My Magic Carpet
6. New Window Treatments- I added heavy opaque linen French cafe curtains in the adjoining bathroom
New Indoor/Outdoor Rug by My Magic Carpet- This 5'x7' Jute Q-Bert Navy rug in this fun geometric pattern is both stylish and practical. It brings a big of modernity to this blue room and with a deep navy color, it adds some depth as well. Since it's a full indoor/outdoor rug and 100% Polyester fabric design, it's waterproof and stain resistant as well. I love how it's nonslip too and I don't need a rug pad underneath.
