Why Brown is Trending for Fashion And Home This Fall

Why We Love To See
The Color Brown
in Home & Fashion
FOR FASHION...
"A rich, chocolate-y brown

(coined by Pantone as “Mocha Mousse”)

also maintains a strong presence this season with many designers,

from Fendi to Saint Laurent, opting for tonal suiting and unexpected pairings—alongside pale greens and purples seen at Prada and Gucci".

Something we in the interior design industry have known for quite some time, the color brown has a grounding effect bringing an instantly warm, comforting yet stylish vibe to a room. From "brown antiques" making a comeback to all brown painted rooms, this warm hue has been appreciated this past year. I have noted that designers are embracing these warm hues with the entire spectrum of brown from caramel to chocolate. At the 2025 Milan Design Week, the use of brown was celebrated as a philosophical shift towards creating more organic spaces.

I am not one who normally chooses fashion trends when dressing, and I tend to use my classic compass to guide my senses. However, it is certainly hard to deny that specifically Chocolate Brown is having a moment in fashion, albeit a long-time favorite of mine, deep brown is of the moment and seen everywhere in the pages of fashion magazines.

The Fall season is my favorite time of year for fashion- layering is key as we prepare for certainly unexpected weather conditions from sunny, summer-like days to blustery Autumn feels.  It is the perfect time to break out that special houndstooth blazer, some brown suede shoes, and throw a cashmere wrap over your shoulders. Brown is a hue that compliments so many palettes and works well with black (my favorite color in fashion).

This season in Fashion, Chocolate Brown is shown as a lovely foil for a deep sage green, and pale pink, denim blue and the iconic hues seen on the falling leaves from pumpkin to ochre. I suggest mixing up lots of color with brown for a modern flair. And, don't even get me started with purple and brown (I need to write an entire post about the color purple in both the home and fashion soon).
