Eating Our Way Through France This Autumn- Four Favorite Meals in Paris

Save this for your next trip to Paris:
Our Four Favorite
Meals this Fall Season
There is obvioulsy so much to do and see (and eat) in Paris yet, there never seems to be enough time. We were in the city for a couple days before heading to Provence, and we certainly made our emphasis this trip on the meals. In the past, it's been art, site seeing, interior design but time we focused our attention on good food.

1. Le Bon George- From start to finish this was a first-class experience. Everyone talks about the Steak Au Poivre in a creamy pepper sauce (and it was incrediblly delicious and surpassed our expectations with melt in your mouth bites) but I was so happy to hear the Chocolate Mousse was prepared with no cream or milk (as I'm lactose intolerant) and made with whipped egg whites. It was hard to believe and so creamy and light and even after a huge lunch, it did not overwhelm. I need to mention to Oeuf Mayonnaise as it was absolutely delectable, and like no other deviled egg salad I've ever had.

2. Chez Josephine Dumonet is a small spot and a place you could easily pass by without a notice, the room is a bit worn. But, don't let that fool you- the food is stellar, and incredibly, quintessentially Old-World Parisian. They offer Classic French favorites and service with a warm smile and also great wine. The entire dinner was delicious but the Escargot, the Champage Souffle and the Apple Tarte Tatin are what we keep remembering. And in a very walkable neighborhood in the 6th arrondissement
2. Chez LAmi Louis is many people's favorite restaurant and has been around since 1924.  It's in a historic small bistro.  It can be difficult to get them on the phone to make a reservation but it's worth the effort. I heard they were recently purchased by the luxury brand, LVMH yet it is refreshing to note they still retains their authentic charm. The roasted chicken is divine- perfectly cooked, and it's juicy with a simple au jus. The portions are huge and with a giant pile of shoestring french fries. We finished dinner with a simple fresh fruit and cream (yet, somehow it tasted better than at home) and a rum bonbon that was perfectly soaked. located in the Marais (the 3rd arrondissement) this restaurant topped our list.

4. Le Grand Verfour is a world-class experience with impeccable service in a beautiful jewel-box room with classic French design, paintings and a gorgeous restored space.  We started with a delicious silver trio tray of tastings. All the food was delicous but we agreed, the Sea Bass in a provencal cream sauce topped the list.It had a rich flavoring with shallots, tomato and garlic   The Duck and Smoked Eel Foie Gras was Chef's kiss.  It was delightful. Yes, we've had foie gras in Paris before, but with pear and and eel (of all things) in a pressed terrine with green apple slices  and verbene gelee, well, it was a surprise of flavors (in a good way).Set in the toney Palais Royal neighborhood (in the 1st arrondissement), we had a fantastic time walking off our meal while shopping in the neighborhood.

Happy Nesting
