WELCOME to Nest by Tamara blog
Thanks for stopping by, and since 2010 I've been sharing my passion for interior design, history, art, entertaining, travel & fashion. I am an interior designer, textile designer and writer living and working in New York City and East Hampton, Long Island. My musings have taken me to international design, art, antique and epicurean events. I have been asked to write on these subjects for magazines and online media, and I also regularly host events and talk on these subjects. I am grateful to have been listed as the #1 top design blog, blogs to watch, top design blogs and named and awarded Rising Star of Design by the IFDA NY industry organization. One of a Kind, Bespoke Tribal Lamp Shades by English Lighting Company, Vaughan

What We Love Today Column:
Vaughan's Tribal Collection of
Handmade Lampshades
these gorgeous porcelain and pottery lamps from Vaughan look smashing, and topped with the Tribal Collection of lampshades, it's like "icing on the cake"

You probably already know London-based furniture and lighting company Vaughan.  They're an "old school" premiere manufacturer of beautiful, quality often hand-made products sold exclusively to the design trade.  I've been shopping their wares for my homes and the homes of my clients for decades, and I've written about them before on Nest by Tamara.  When I popped into the NYC-showroom the other day to bring yardage of our root cellar designs' tortoiseshell fabric for a designer who is customizing lampshades, I met up with the team who showed me the latest collection.  Tribal is a bespoke line created by Vaughan's mother and daughter duo, Lucy and Emma who traveled the globe to source beautiful, artisan made fabric for a pleated shade collection.  For a limited time, designers can choose one of these gorgeous shades to add to their client's homes.  Each of their lampshades are handmade with a limited run of these textiles (so get them while they last).  The Tribal collection was so successful they decided to extend these textiles to upholstery on select Vaughan pieces as well as with an array of cushions and pillows.

The new collection began when they unearthed some of their textile archives hidden away for over 30 years.  This inspired their travel to India where they procured more colorful designs, then onto to France, Uzbekistan and Ghana to add layers of beautiful textiles to their ensemble.  The textiles are a combination of hand-dyed linens mixed with antique textiles, some embroidery, woven prints and more.
