Our Favorite Holiday Windows in New York City, 2019
Our Annual Holiday Tradition,
Window Peeking in
New York City
I love traditions. The warmth and familiarity can be reassuring. Growing up, we came to rely on these traditions during the holidays. One such tradition was baking and cooking from the Betty Crocker cookbook. We'd turn to the pages of those familiar recipes we made year after year. We mostly knew how to prepare the dishes, but it was fun to go back and read the instructions anyway, sometimes adding new ingredients or changing it up a bit. Today, our favorite cookbooks have tabbed edges and notes written in the corner. I open it and instantly recognize my grandmother and mother's handwriting. It stings a little, no a lot, because they're both gone. But, those pages bring me back to those memories when we were together as a family. All these years later I spend a lot of time in the kitchen with my daughter who is a talented cook and baker. Life comes full circle. I like to think these recipes, and our other annual holiday traditions keep us close. Unpacking Christmas ornaments can also bring on a wave of emotions, as we gently unwrap the ones passed down in the family, each one with their own memory. It's a lot to take in, but, it's also comforting. I tell my kids to make their own traditions with their friends too, and add onto the ones we make together. I've done that. For a few years now, my friend Carrie Leskowitz and I have made a lunch date during the Holidays where we head out for the day to see the most beautiful and celebratory windows and displays in New York City. First stop is always Bergdorf Goodman, the uber chic windows and fifth floor home department are all glittery and decked out. By mixing the old with the new, these traditions bring us joy, laughter, love and yes, sometimes a little sadness. Take a look at our favorite spots this year, and I wish you a very Happy Hanukkah, a Merry Christmas and a Glorious New Year!
Happy Holidays

Bergdorf Goodman
As we have come to expect, the windows at Bergdorf Goodman are creative and colorful and layered, but this year the curio cabinet-like designs are from a bird's eye view. Once your eyes adjust to all the details and lights, you understand what you're seeing, and visions of pinball machines dance in our heads.
we hopped over to
