There are many design noteworthy products for me to share after I spent a whirlwind few days in Las Vegas on a sponsored trip with Designhounds (follow our hashtags at #designhoundsKBIS).  I think the most important design element this year was the technological offerings. It all feels luxurious (not necessarily a word at first associated with technology), but allowing the consumer a streamlined, stress-less, pure experience is an indulgence we all crave. What I mean exactly is that technology and design are dovetailing today in a way that gives us extra features and more control.  Many of the top brands at KBIS offered integrated systems to control temperature, lighting, cooking with one touch of a button or even a clap or a spoken word. Appliances like ovens and cooktops today have multi-offerings from steam to convection to griddle tops. Combine this with the voice activation and it allows our lives at home to become simpler and simpler. Additionally, customizing our kitchen design choices is available like never before with options for detailing to many color varieties and finishes for cabinetry.  The "world is our oyster"and the ability to personalize our kitchens and bathrooms to exactly how we want to live and entertain, is certainly luxury living served up on a silver platter.  Even with all these options, the design elements are streamlined and edited, giving a feeling of simplicity yet offering behind-the-scenes storage.

All this seamless design brings us to wellness. Luxury living in 2019 emphasizes wellness, and it feels indulgent to pamper ourselves at home.  Our home is a safe haven, and the design at KBIS took us there again and again.  We walked the show to glean the best, and also enjoyed a lovely boxed lunch while listening to 2-minute updates from brands who participated in the shows' "Design Bites" program.  Take a look at the five elements we found at the show...
1.SEAMLESS DESIGN- we noted lots of cabinetry tucking away our daily items. Since we obviously have to perform many functions in our kitchen, I noticed the cabinetry had more ways to creatively hide it all away.  Wellborn Cabinet offers myriad features like easy-touch cabinetry and hidden drawers and cabinets.  One example- an actual drawer to hide the doggie bowls, that one is genius!

 2. INDULGING OURSELVES THROUGH WELLNESS-  Mr. Steam's in-home steam system allows a full at-home spa experience, and espouses that while steam bathing is wonderful and luxurious, it also offers many healthy benefits- like providing better circulation, burning calories, cleansing the skin, clearing up allergies and improving restful sleep. They also now offer a complete AeroSteam aromatherapy Chakra oil-infused system as well, which electronically atomizes botanical fragrances into your steam at the source for a consistent infusion of essential oils into the steam shower.  The oils can even be added to their heated towel racks to create warm, oil-infused towels after your steam shower, and further increase wellness.

3. EASE OF CONTROL through TECHNOLOGY- with the clap of a hand when entering a room, Thermador's Connected Experience homeowners go on a virtual trip around the kitchen.  From transforming your favorite coffee beans to a morning cup of coffee, to whipping up a spectacular meal, this systems gives the consumer more control over features on all appliances in the kitchen that take time and energy to use.  We all understand time is money, and these integrated systems save us time, and that is a luxury we can afford.
A similar technology is offered by Connected Living by Samsung Family. During #DesignBites' meet and greets we learned from Samsung that we spend 60 percent of our waking time in the home in the kitchen. Samsung feels it's important to give you that connectedness in the kitchen to be able to perform many functions (like manage your washer, see who is at the door and even keep tabs on your sleeping baby) and all through a visual board on the refrigerator.  They also offer a "family board," a virtual magnet board where everyone in the family can communicate!
4. MORE INDOOR OUTDOOR LIVING- quite a luxury to take our home life and extend it to our outdoors as well.  At Design Bites, we learned about THOR offers the Pro-Style 8 piece Modular Outdoor Kitchen Suite- a new outdoor cook system that can be arranged in almost any configuration in a seamless and affordable package.  This saves the homeowner the costs of custom kitchen units.  They offer the units on castors for movability to arrange into an L or U shape.
5. CUSTOMIZABLE APPLIANCES AND CABINETRY- in today's market the buyer has many choices to completely customize cabinetry and appliances--and we loved Cafe Appliances.  I noted in an earlier post the big design color this Market was a vibrant jewel-colored green offered on a variety of appliances, on tiles and on cabinets with many options for metal hardware- like copper, bronze, black and brushed. Personalizing our kitchen appliances down to the knobs and handles and finishes certainly feels luxurious.
