A Beaux-Art Style Hotel Made Modern-- We Love The Proper Hotel in San Francisco

Residential + Commercial = Resimercial
Noting This Design Trend At
The Proper Hotel in San Francisco
Designed by Kelly Wearstler

What is Resimercial design?  "
A layout and furnishing style that brings the homey feel of residential furniture into the workplace. Resimercial design celebrates commercial quality, residential-inspired features over the sterile and standardized feel of corporate furnishings. The style has been growing in popularity in the past couple years, but at NeoCon 2017 resimercial workspaces went from being just another trend to a legitimate design movement."   -Wayfair.com

Resimercial Design has been on our radar for a few years, and this design trend is growing in leaps and bounds. My blogger travels have taken me to unique places around the world, and I've noticed this aesthetic throughout hotels, restaurants and other commercial spaces.  I've been excited about this since we launched our commercial wallpaper with root cellar designs. Many of today's hotels are designing their chic spaces more effectively by mixing design styles together with both modern pieces and antiques for this layered lived-in home-like appeal. I love it that boutique hotels are anticipating travelers yearning for a stay that feels more intimate, and quite a departure from the large, impersonal hotels of the past. They provide guests with the feeling they are visiting the home of a stylish friend (I want these friends!). Many of these hotels include sofas you can sink into, wallpapered walls, eclectic art, great reading material bed-side, quirky lighting and other personal touches.

We appreciate designer Kelly Wearstlerfrom her product design to her interior design- and how she brings a fresh, modern lens to all she touches yet wrapped in a lovely, Maximalist package.  Her recent overhaul of the Proper Hotel in San Francisco (owned by her husband Brad Korzen in partnership with Alex Samek and Brian De Lowe) demonstrates her talent well. Wearstler gave this landmark, historic hotel a serious facelift showing the Resimercial design trend is here to stay.  From the hotel's gorgeous restaurant Villon, which is named after French artist Jacques Villon, to the rooftop lounge, the Proper Hotel is warm and welcoming yet wrapped in a chic bow with a French 1940's Cubism vibe.  Check out the story in Vogue Australia about the renovation, and the expansion of the hotel chain to other cities around the world.
