Day 3: Holiday House designs inspire with a look at "A Painterly Christmas" created by JandG Design

Holiday House in New York City

& second floor landing
When popping over to preview the annual Holiday House a few days ago before it opened, I was inspired to head home and ring the holiday season into my own home with fresh, innovative decorating ideas. There was much fodder to take away from this beautiful, historic home where each space was personally decorated paying homage to a particular holiday. The philanthropic aspect of the event adds another layer of goodness to the experience, and to hear the personal stories of breast cancer research and love that goes into supporting this campaign is uplifting as well.
Hallways and public spaces can be tough areas to decorate and their large, transitional nature makes it tricky to bring a personal stamp to the space, but the duo from JandG Designs worked their magic -- the hallway and grand stairwell sings with pops of color and magical design.
"A Painterly Christmas"
incorporates their signature traditional-meets-modern style as they transformed this sweeping stairwell and cascading hallway. The hand painted wallpaper was captured in large, over sized frames then hung as panels -- it created a striking application and showed the wallpaper differently, honoring it as art to be displayed. Additionally, the room showcased metal sculpture, modern art, an upholstered settee and unique lighting. I was drawn to the incredible lighting and sconces from Marisia Holzer Studio with a studio on Washington Street in NYC. The nest-like wooden lighting allows the light to filter through in a way that is magical.

JandG's decorating tip for the holidays:
Jennifer and Georgia suggest framing large pieces of wallpaper as they did here to create temporary installations in your home for the holiday season. A great idea to do this would be with a festive, holiday themed vintage paper that can be hung then taken down later.
a little bit about JandGDesign:
the firm was founded by Jennifer Beek and Georgia Hambright in 2013 in NYC. The duo brings a well-trained eye to each project, creating spaces that are sleek and elegant while drawing inspiration from classic design.
