Highlights from the Kips Bay Showhouse - extraordinary grand staircase at the landmarked Villard Mansion by interior designer John Douglas Eason
Highlights from the
2014 Kips Bay Showhouse,
beginning with a historic stairwell
This is a classically beautiful winding stairwell inviting visitors from the first to second floors in this rich mansion. The entire house is a testament to high-end classical design, yet this year's designers did a magnificent job at providing modern twists around every historic corner. Please stop back over the next couple weeks as I will bring you highlights from my three visits to the space, each time I discovered a detail I had not noticed the time before. I have visited many showhouses over he years, but this one is special.
The limestone staircase was already beautiful but designer John Douglas Eason utilized his talent to showcase a jewel-box design. Highlights include an incredible art piece, a historically rich sculpture and a timeless console, with the juxtaposition of a contemporary silver leaf chair. The golden overhead light lends a modernity to the space, keeping it fresh.
Happy Nesting
