BOLD COMBINATIONS WITH PINK FOR FASHION & HOME, Spring 2019

House Beautiful, April 2019
LET THE PINK-IN
Three Stellar Pink Combinations
Which Are All The Rage
For Home & Fashion, Spring 2019

I'm heading off to High Point Market today to join the Design Bloggers Tour.  I've been chosen as one of the ten top design blogs to join and participate, and together we will nab the most up-to-date and stellar interior design products to showcase here on the blog.  As usual, I will also be on the look-out for trending color in design (since it's my favorite topic).  As I pack, I'm considering what to wear to High Point- this year I'm adding punches of pink and lilac to my wardrobe (it is the south after all!), and of course being a New Yorker, there will be black (it's just a given).  But, nevertheless, I have pink top of mind today for home and fashion.

One of the first rules in design school (heck, one of the first things we learn in kindergarten when blending crayons) is the power of color combination!  A yellow is a yellow is a yellow, but put that Canary next to a vivid purple (it's opposite friend on the color wheel), and you have something magical!  It makes sense that color combining can be game changers- whether it's in fashion, home design or art- but this Spring 2019 we seem to be taking that idea of color blocking, melding and mixing to a whole new level.  All the rules seem to have been thrown out the window (in a good way) with color and it's the unusual pairings that's getting attention.  When done well, color combining makes a bold statement for both fashion and home.  Let's take the color pink for instance-- it's one of those hues that holds many stereotypes and meanings that sometimes go way back to our childhood (think ballet, baby girl pink dresses), yet combine it with turquoise, orange or lilac and even black, and now pink stands out like the "cool kid" on the playground.  Case in point- check out some really modern (hot of the press) pink designs happening right now in home and fashion...
1. PINK & TURQUOISE

these two together are quite a duo, and make a statement since they are both equally strong colors.  tiffany blue, turquoise and other similar blue-greens are hitting it big these days in home and fashion.  We seem to be moving away from (although my favorites and no worries they'll be back) indigo and your average blues for a bit and heading in the blue-green direction. Combine that with pink, and it's a win!

We see the same feeling in this April's feature in NYC&G, a stunning home near the Hudson River. The all-wood interior is brought up a notch with this cascading stair carpet in turquoise with pinks and other colors.
2. PINK & LILAC

Kate Spade's entire spring collection is showing florals and varying shades of pink with lilac, lavender and purples for an unexpected twist on a traditional color scheme.

and the same hues yet shown in a more subtle way, yet equally as powerful and chic in Elle Decor this month.
3. PINK & BLACK

Pink with black becomes instantly edgy and away washes the stereotypes we associate with this pretty color.
