There are several interior design trends on our radar heading into the next decade. As a matter of fact, we were researching the Maximalist trend when writing this story and searched long and hard throughout all the top Shelter magazines for examples of the rich, over the top trend we love. We see the layered designs, jewel-tone colors with a "more is more" aesthetic everywhere so there is certainly no shortage of this design trend. However, what we found in our research is another growing trend, a strong burgeoning design aesthetic that's taking center stage and heading into the new year, one we love equally to the Maximalist trend. This has grown out of a passion for artisan-made wares, a return to nature and natural products with a slight industrial feel, yet with a warm and cozy, chic lens. Designers have recently been showcasing this aesthetic- showing old and new together, warm and cool colors combined, yet with caramel, toasty colors at the epic-center. There is still lots of layering (and this is not sleek and modern and monochromatic at all) but the layering is mostly textures with wood, rattan, brick, exposed beams. These designs have a good deal of editing in the space too to give the eye plenty to take it all in. We see great usage of antiques put into a modern framework. These are homes and room we simply want to spend time in.

This kitchen is the epitome of a Classic, Modern Cozy kitchen with a West Coast vibe showing cool and warm colors blending beautifully, and a promise of a casual, yet luxurious lifestyle. Another modern kitchen showing this growing trend was designed in the Hamptons by interior designer Shannon Tate. Loving the use of subway tile all the way up the wall, and the dark charcoal/black cabinetry. Photographs by Claire Esparros featured on The Nest.
